Rapid Improvement Event (RIE)
The client needed a focus on their warehouse operation for the retail part of their business, from a Lean perspective. Sales over the last few years had continued to increase, leading to several warehouse processes becoming "overloaded". Something different needed to be done to prepare the warehouse team for future sales increases.
We proposed a Rapid Improvement Event (i.e. Kaizen Event) for the client. While planning it, a basic quality appraisal system was identified as needed, so it was designed and implemented, to allow for expected improvements to be measured. The actual Rapid Improvement Event involved representatives from the warehouse group, the retail store, accounting, IT, and was an intense, focused effort over five days.
While the RIE was being conducted, several significant process improvements were identified and implemented immediately. And once the RIE was completed, another list of longer term possibilities was identified and was to be reviewed by the client for opportunity in the longer term.
