                              Risk Management

                              The client is a manufacturing company planning a significant  capacity expansion to enter a new market category. The manufacturing process was new to the organization with no known precedent in other companies. As a result, the company elected to design and construct the manufacturing process internally. The client recognized the risks associated with a pursuit of this opportunity and sought ways to manage that risk.

                              We worked with the client to develop a unitary risk management model that accommodated the spectrum of risks incurred in this program. A layered series of reviews were established with outputs from one layer providing inputs for the other starting with technical risk and laddering up to business risk. We also worked with leadership teams to change the behavior to risk that up to that point had been ad hoc and reactionary.

                              No risks resulted in a delay of schedule or a compromise in product design. The risk management model was adopted for future programs. The equipment started up on schedule with product being produced and put into inventory during the initial shift after start-up beating budget plans by over four weeks.

                              Product acceptance exceeded expectations with the number or prospective customers purchasing the new product in excess of 90 percent.
